Outline:
Spousal sponsorship refusals remain one of the most common matters before the Immigration Appeal Division.
This session will provide a practical guide to preparing and presenting sponsorship appeals, with a focus on:
- proving the genuineness of a relationship and
- addressing common refusal reasons.
Participants will learn how to
- build persuasive documentary evidence,
- prepare clients for testimony, and
- effectively argue humanitarian and compassionate considerations where applicable.
The presentation will also
- review key case law and
- present practical strategies for settlement discussions with Minister’s counsel.

Speaker:
Behnoush Shafiei Sararoodi is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) with a focused practice in refugee and protection law. Having immigrated to Canada in 1998, she brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. Since 2021, she has represented individuals and families in refugee claims and appeals, admissibility hearings, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and criminal rehabilitation matters, with a compassionate, client-centred approach to advocacy and education.
