Outline:
Humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) applications provide an important discretionary pathway for individuals seeking permanent residence outside standard immigration programs.
This session will:
explore the legal framework under section 25 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, including the factors officers consider when assessing H&C requests.
- Participants will learn about three H & C factors:
- how to effectively present evidence related to establishment in Canada,
- hardship upon return, and
- the best interests of children (BIOC).
- Practical guidance will be provided on
- structuring persuasive submissions and
- avoiding common pitfalls in H&C applications.

Speaker:
Behnoush Shafiei Sararoodi is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) with a focused practice in refugee and protection law. Having immigrated to Canada in 1998, she brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. Since 2021, she has represented individuals and families in refugee claims and appeals, admissibility hearings, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and criminal rehabilitation matters, with a compassionate, client-centred approach to advocacy and education.
